One of the things that New Orleans is most known for is its incredible music. From rhythm and blues to jazz and so much more, you can hear fabulous sounds filling the air at any given moment. You’ll also find lots of opportunities to enjoy the local music scene for free, thanks to talented street performers and special events like Wednesdays at the Square.
Visit Lafayette Square
Just a few steps away from the Blake Hotel, you’ll find historic Lafayette Square. This beautiful green space is a welcome respite in the heart of the city’s Central Business District. It was founded in 1788, and it’s the second oldest park in the city, taking its name from the American Revolutionary War hero, the Marquis de Lafayette.
The Youth Leadership Council Presents Wednesdays At The Square
The park is a great place to relax and enjoy the calmer side of city life in New Orleans. Starting March 15th, the concert series, dubbed Wednesdays at the Square, returns with free performances for everyone. The series is sponsored by the Young Leadership Council (YLC), which strives to support and develop the leadership skills of young professionals.
The organization participates in many community service projects throughout the year, and the concert series is one of the favorites. It features 10 concerts for the public to enjoy, and food and beverage sales during the series help support the YCL’s efforts. You can also find lots of pop-ups and vendors showcasing their ware, featuring art, clothing, and more.
The concerts take place on Wednesday evenings, from 5 pm to 8 pm, and host a variety of musical talents. Currently, the line-up features talented performers Anders Osborne, Marc Broussard, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Flow Tribe, and Mia Borders. For a complete list of upcoming concerts, you can see the full schedule here.
Things To Know
While the concerts are free, there are VIP tickets available if you want to make the most of your musical experience. These tickets typically include prime viewing spots and food and drink tickets.
You can find out more information about purchasing tickets on the event’s website or stay up-to-date by checking out their wesbite. You’ll find all the latest information about who’s performing, schedule changes, and more.
As another bonus, if you’re traveling with your four-legged friend, they can come to the concert too. Just make sure to keep your pup on a leash at all times and that it’s no longer than 6 feet.
After enjoying a pleasant evening listening to music, your hotel room is only moments away if you’re ready to call it a night. Get a peaceful night’s rest, then enjoy a delicious breakfast at Cafe at the Square before heading out on your next New Orleans adventure.
